Lt. Eric Mills

Four new lieutenants were recently promoted at the MFD. Get to know them all week long on the MFD Blog!

Where are you stationed?
I am stationed at Firehouse 9 (Midvale/Regent) on the C shift.

Where were you previously?
Previously I was a firefighter at Firehouse 1 downtown, and prior to that I was a Firefighter/Paramedic at Firehouse 1.

When did you join the MFD?
I joined the MFD in October of 2006.

What do you like about your station and/or the territory?
I enjoy the variety that Firehouse 9's territory provides. Various types of building construction (Hilldale, high-rise structures, residential homes), high-traffic roadways (University Ave., Midvale Blvd.), and unique neighborhood layouts (Shorewood Hills) all provide us with unique challenges that we have to account and adapt for throughout our 24-hour shift.

What's the most rewarding aspect of this job for you?
The most rewarding aspect of the job for me is the effect we can make on people’s lives every day. Something as simple as showing a child the fire truck can have such a positive impact on their day, so when we are able to do things like save a person’s home from a fire or assist a patient on a serious emergency medical call, it makes me proud to be a member of such a great group.

What do you do when you're not working at MFD?
When I'm not at the firehouse, I spend a majority of my time with my family, Kia (wife), Jordy (3), and Everly (1). We spend a majority of our time outside playing, golfing, boating, and doing projects around the house.
