Firefighters and Sunset Garden Club members standing behind new tulip tree

Fire Station 9 is celebrating a new tree planted in their yard today in honor of Arbor Day.

Members of the Sunset Garden Club came together to donate a tulip tree that now stands on the Regent Street side of the firehouse. On this 150th celebration of Arbor Day, Sunset Garden Club president Nancy Sloan read a poem honoring all that trees provide for people and wildlife.

Maureen Wild Gordon, Madison District Director for the Wisconsin Garden Club Federation, also acknowledged that April is Plant America Month! To plant trees is to support a sustainable and efficient environment, she said.

This particular tree is a cultivar known as “Little Volunteer,” and it will grow to be 12 to 20 feet tall. The volunteers of the Sunset Garden Club stop by Station 9 regularly to maintain the beautiful pollinator garden in the station's front yard at the corner of Midvale Blvd. and Regent St. Now, they will also tend to the new tree, which stands on the north side of the firehouse for all to enjoy.

We're grateful to the Sunset Garden Club for this long-lasting investment to our neighborhood-- and our environment.
