Firefighter Diondrae Jenkins Recruit Class 9 is now serving at a fire station near you! Get to know Madison's newest firefighters.

Where are you stationed?

Station 10 (Northport Road), 'C' shift

What were you doing prior to joining MFD?

I was working on a printing press in Racine, WI at Seda North America (based out of Italy), where we printed and manufactured coffee cups for big companies like McDonald’s, Starbucks, etc., all the way down to small "mom and pop" shops all across the country.

Why did you want to pursue this career?

My best friend, Richard Garner, who passed away, was a firefighter and he loved it! He is the Godfather to my twin daughters and I feel as if he wanted to put me in a better situation financially for my family and be able to spend a lot more quality time with them and my wife, all while having a great job and being able to serve the community. I never thought of firefighting as a career for me, but after Richard put some things in perspective for me, I put in an application in November of 2017 and now we’re here!

What is something you love about Madison or enjoy doing that is uniquely Madison?

I love that there is so much to do in the Madison. You can go watch a variety of college sporting events depending on the season, take a walk down State Street, and have multiple food options along with so many other shops you can choose from. Lake Mendota is great if you’re a water lover and there are so many other things I haven’t even gotten around to doing, so your options are pretty much endless.

Feel free to share any other stories or "fun facts" about yourself that we didn't ask about!

My twin girls are identical (Jayda & Jordynn), and they will turn 3 in September. Sports have been huge part of my life since I was 4 or 5 years old. I played football for the Badgers as a wide receiver. Also, I love to read.
