Firefighter/EMT Noah EngelhartWhere are you stationed?
Station 12 (South Point Road) on the ‘C’ shift

What attracted you to this career?
I enjoy being a firefighter due to the athletic style of work, which suits me greatly as I am an active person throughout the year. I also appreciate the family-like environment that surrounds you throughout your career.

Do you remember your very first call after graduating the recruit academy?
I do not remember my first call on Madison but I will never forget my first crew that I was assigned. I have learned that the people you are surrounded with are what create your career and help you through those tough calls that you may endure.

Medical responses are an important part of the service we provide. What have been the most rewarding aspects of these calls?
EMS is very rewarding. You learn so much about a family and the dynamic of the family instantly. You also get to participate in huge moments of people’s lives, which is not only rewarding personally, but also rewarding for a person in the community that had a positive experience with MFD.

What advice do you have for someone hoping to join the MFD as a firefighter/EMT?
If you are interested in applying for the MFD, understand that this is a job that requires sacrifice and hard work but also is very rewarding. This job is very team-oriented and at times a person must be flexible and open to learning new things. It requires self-motivation and determination to maintain skills to serve the city of Madison as best as we can.
