Fire Prevention Week is October 8-14, and this year's theme is "Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!"

Seconds can mean the difference between escaping safely from a fire or having lives end tragically. Because a fire could block the main exits of your home, it's important to know what your other options are. These might include:

  • Windows
  • Balconies
  • Patios
  • Anywhere that allows you access to the outdoors, even if you need the fire department's help to get you to the ground

Identify two ways out of each room in your home.

Make sure all your windows can open and close, and that they are clear from clutter, so you can use them in an emergency.
