Firefighter Taylor Frosch

Where are you stationed?
Station 10 (Troy Drive) on the 'C' shift

Why did you want to pursue a career in firefighting/EMS?
Growing up in a family that worked in public service, I found I was naturally interested in this field of work after being around it from a young age. After graduating high school, I joined an internship program where I was able to attend classes at Madison College as well as gain hands-on experience in the Fire/EMS field. The aspect that interested me the most about the fire service is how dynamic it is. To be able to work as a team to mitigate problems is very rewarding.

What do you like to do when you’re not working at MFD?
Outside of MFD, I love spending time with my family. I have two boys at home (1 and 5 years old). It’s been fun watching them grow. I also enjoy music, fishing, and being outdoors.

What have you enjoyed about working for the Madison Fire Department so far?
I’ve enjoyed the people the most. The department definitely has a positive vibe to it. I transitioned to MFD from the Town of Madison Fire Department and all the crews have been welcoming. Some aspects of the job are similar but MFD is a much larger organization and it’s been a good experience learning new roles.

What are among the most memorable experiences you've had since graduating the academy?
There are a lot of people who live and travel in and out of Madison. Everybody has their own life story. It’s been a great experience talking to patients and people in the community. You can learn a lot by just listening.

What advice would you give to someone hoping to join the MFD?
Stay focused and driven. Try to better yourself in any way that you can. If there’s a certain part of the hiring process that’s challenging for you (e.g. test taking, interviewing, physical fitness), don’t be afraid to reach out to others for help.
