All fourteen of Madison's fire stations are lit up in red this Saturday to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and to show support for the families whose loved ones are being remembered.

Each year, firefighters who died in the line of duty are honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Due to the global pandemic, this year’s commemoration will take place virtually, and fire departments across the country are showing their support by participating in a virtual vigil called “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters.”

This year’s tribute by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation honors the lives of 82 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2019, plus 21 additional firefighters who died in previous years. America’s Tribute to Fallen Firefighters can be viewed online on Sunday, October 4 at 9:00 a.m. (Central Time).
