Benefit Dance Flyer photoSable Flames, Inc., an organization comprised of black fulltime firefighters from around Dane County, is gearing up for its 24th Annual Second Alarm Benefit Dance.

The event takes place Saturday, February 25th, 6:30 p.m., at the Concourse Hotel in downtown Madison.

Established in 1993, Sable Flames provides financial support for African American low-income families and their children to achieve higher education, and continues to promote unity in the Madison community. Sable Flames is recognized and supported by the City of Madison, Fire Chief Steven Davis, and Fire Fighters Local 311.

Sable Flames was formed after the tragic Somerset Circle fire in 1990 which claimed the lives of five young children. Events surrounding the fire divided families, communities, and fire department personnel.

Lieutenant Robert Hansbro (9B) and other now-retired firefighters formed Sable Flames to help bring people back together through community outreach, including the Second Alarm Benefit Dance.

All proceeds from the Second Alarm Benefit dance will be awarded to this year’s recipients of the Jones-Robinson Scholarship, in memory of the five children that perished in the Somerset Circle fire.

More information about this year’s event, including ticket information, is available via Eventbrite.
