Ascending the stairs of a high-rise building in a selfless act of duty is oftentimes just another demand of the job.

Then there are times firefighters choose to do it in a charitable pursuit of another greater good – in this case, clean air and healthy lungs.

On Saturday, March 19th, five members of the Madison Fire Department completed the 2016 Fight for Air Climb at the U.S. Bank Center in downtown Milwaukee.
 
Firefighters from all over Wisconsin were invited to participate in the annual event which serves as a fundraiser for the American Lung Association.
 
Climbing 1,034 stairs and 47 floors donning full firefighter gear (including air packs) on behalf of the MFD were Firefighter/Paramedics Linnea Anderson and Laura Prom, Apparatus Engineers Carri Holloway and Kimberly Mathews, and Division Chief Ché Stedman.
 
Together the MFD team raised over $1,800 for the American Lung Association, exceeding their team goal of $1,000.

All told, $545,470 were raised for this year's Air Climb.
