Lt. Liza Tatar

Four new lieutenants were recently promoted at the MFD. Get to know them all week long on the MFD Blog!

Where are you stationed?
Station 10 (Troy Drive), A shift

Where were you previously?
I was an Apparatus Engineer at Station 1, A shift.

When did you join the MFD?
October 10, 2005. Group 25.

What do you like about your station and/or the territory?
I am excited to be assigned to Station 10 on Northport Dr. When I moved to Madison in 1998, my first apartment was located on the northeast side of Madison. I was able to get to know the community, my neighbors, and the great local businesses that make up this area of town. I have many years of great memories coaching girls soccer at East High School. I enjoyed the tradition of pre-game spaghetti dinners hosted by the families of the athletes. This part of town instantly welcomed me and made Madison my home.

What are some unique characteristics about your territory, and how do they shape your service to the neighborhood?
I love how active the community is, from fun runs to Mallards baseball games and pick-up basketball on the courts. I regularly see kids in the area around the station playing Double Dutch and chalking murals on the sidewalks. It's clear people love to be outdoors with all of the well-tended gardens. What a great place to be!!

Anything else you'd like to share about yourself?
An interesting note about myself: My grandmother was in a bucket brigade more than 50 years ago in Hungary. She regaled me with stories of joining her neighbors in the street to put out fires and help however she could. Before she passed away she told me she was proud of what I do and how I help others. I have channeled Grandma on more than one call, and I know she is my guardian angel.
