Community Paramedic Gail Campbell Rocks On To Retirement Posted 05/07/2019
Firefighter/Paramedic Gail Campbell has retired from the Madison Fire Department, capping off a career that spanned three decades and served all corners of the city. Campbell was first drawn to the MFD in the 1980s at the encouragement of her then-roommate, Jody Kurilla, now a retired lieutenant with MFD. Read more » -

Charity Flag Football Game Raises Funds For Local Youth Posted 08/15/2018
The Madison Fire Department and Madison Police Department squared off for charity at Breese Stevens Field on Sunday, August 5. A crowd of 297 people came out to cheer us on during the inaugural "First Responders Bowl" and helped raise $1500 for local youth. The proceeds from food sales and other private donations were split equally among East High School Athletics and the Richard Garner Memorial Scholarship Fund. Read more » -

Engine 3 Celebrates Halloween With East Side Neighbors Posted 11/01/2017
Halloween only comes around once a year, and the firefighters of Station 3 were ready to celebrate with their east side neighbors! Engine 3 led the Halloween parade for the Yahara Park neighborhood and stuck around for the party that followed. Firefighters and their costumed neighbors were excited to spend the evening together on the chilly October evening. A short while later, Engine 3 went around the neighborhoods near their Willy Street fire station and handed out candy to trick-or-treaters. Read more » -

Captain Todd Steyer Wraps Up A Fulfilling 30-Year Career With MFD Posted 06/04/2017
After three decades immersed in a career he describes as rewarding, challenging, and gratifying, Captain Todd Steyer retires from the Madison Fire Department. Steyer first took interest in emergency medical service in 1981 while a member of the National Ski Patrol, working alongside a number of EMTs rendering aid to injured skiers. Read more » -

AE Eddie Emberson Retires With 28 Years Of Service In the Rear-View Mirror Posted 01/05/2017
Apparatus Engineer Eddie Emberson is stepping down from the driver’s seat of Engine 11 one last time this week after nearly 28 years of dedicated service to the Madison Fire Department. Retiring Lieutenant Tim Binger Reflects On "A Wonderful Life" Posted 12/22/2016
After 40 years in the fire service, and 29 at the MFD, Lieutenant Tim Binger says he’s ready for a new adventure. Binger first put his feet to the fire in 1976 as a volunteer with the Town of Madison Fire Department. He was eventually hired with the Janesville Fire Department in 1980 and then moved to the Madison Fire Department in 1987, where he’s remained until December 21 of this year. Read more » -

An Unexpected Call At Station 3 Posted 08/10/2016
Last night at Station 3, we were mingling after supper and a woman walked over to us to tell us about a hawk that may be injured. She witnessed the Cooper's hawk fly into a station window and fall to the ground. It tried valiantly to fly away but could not get more than a few feet off the ground.
