AE Todd MahoneyWhere are you stationed?
My new station is Fire Station 9 (Midvale Blvd. and Regent St.) on the A shift.

Where were you previously?
I was previously a firefighter/paramedic at Fire Station 8 (Lien Rd.) on the C shift.

How long have you been with the MFD?
I've been on the MFD for 7 years.

Why did I want to become a driver?
Becoming an AE was a chance to take on a different job within the department and develop into a more well-rounded firefighter. This presented me with new challenges, roles, and responsibilities while also allowing me to continue working as a Paramedic in a part-time role.

What do you like about your station and/or territory?
I’ve been at Station 8 on the east side of Madison since I graduated from the Fire Academy, so changing stations and working on the west side is a definite challenge for learning the territory. Station 9 has a wide variety of buildings. They require knowledge of different construction types and layouts so we can better serve our residents.

How do you hope to develop your craft over time?
I have had the benefit of working with very knowledgeable AEs who have provided me with a blueprint to become skilled and proficient at this job. I hope to use their positive examples to continue to learn and develop my job skills.

What do you do when not working at MFD?
My wife and I have rotating work schedules to take care of our three boys and their many activities. We try and live an active lifestyle with a variety of different hobbies.
