Where are you stationed?
I am assigned to Station 3 (Williamson Street) on the C shift.

Why did you want to pursue this career?
Growing up in Madison, I have always had a desire to serve the community in which I grew up. Being able to join the fire department not only allows me the opportunity to do good for our community, but also to help our citizens when they need it the most.

What has been the most rewarding part of your experience so far?
Successfully completing the fire academy and EMT training is definitely the most rewarding experience thus far. It was a very challenging academy that pushes you both mentally and physically. Although challenging, it was also very fun and I was able to form some great friendships.

Now that you've graduated the Academy, what do you look forward to the most?
I am most looking forward to learning from the crew at Station 3. It is a historic station in the heart of Madison which will allow me many opportunities to positively affect the people we serve.

Looking back at the Fire Academy, what was the most challenging element?
Prior to joining the fire department I had no previous experience in the fire service. So for me just learning all the ins and outs of firefighting and the terminology used was very challenging.

What advice would you give to someone hoping to join the MFD?
Be honest, caring, and passionate. Believe in yourself throughout the hiring process and have a true desire to serve the public. This career is truly about something bigger than yourself and you must be committed to putting other people’s needs before your own.

Anything else you'd like to share about yourself?
Prior to joining the Madison Fire Department, I spent 10 years with the Sun Prairie Police Department.
