Intern Garcia with Division Chief Winston and Wanda FullmoreOn Friday August 21st, we said goodbye to our intern Edson Garcia. He was one of 33 students selected to take part in the new Wanda Fullmore Youth Internship Program.

The Wanda Fullmore Youth Internship Program was established by Mayor Soglin in 2014 to give students the opportunity to gain training and employment in various City departments.

During his internship, Garcia received regular mentoring and support from his supervisor, Division Chief Johnny Winston, and a representative from Common Wealth, the organization that oversees the Fullmore Youth Internship Program.

Professional development and financial education were also components of the internship.

While with the MFD, Garcia helped administrative assistants, shadowed fire and elevator inspectors, assisted at CampHERO, was the MFD mascot "Sparky" at Firefighter Fun Day, and did weekly ride-alongs on Ladder 6.

We wish him the best of luck during his senior year at West High School!
