Firefighter McKinnan Stamschror Seventeen new firefighters now serve at a fire station near you! Get to know them by subscribing to the MFD Blog.

Where are you stationed?
I'm assigned to Station 12 on the C shift.

Why did you want to pursue this career?
My father is a firefighter for the City of Milwaukee. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to serve in the fire service and to follow in his footsteps.

Why did you want to work in Madison, for the Madison Fire Department?
Madison was my number-one choice. It presented the best opportunity to pursue a dream career in the fire service. To work in the capitol of the best state in the country is a dream.

Now that you've graduated the Academy, what do you look forward to the most?
I am most looking forward to meeting members of the department and helping the City of Madison.

Looking back at the Fire Academy, what was the most challenging element?
The most challenging aspect was possibly wearing the turnout gear for the first time. Without having gear of your own, it is difficult to practice moving and performing tasks while wearing it. It was a new challenge and something that I did not realize took so much time to get used to.

What advice would you give to someone hoping to join the MFD?
Keep an open mind, be responsible, and know that your current decisions can affect the future. If you do not succeed the first time, do not give up, and try again.
