As the City continues its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, we are working hard on implementing a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system to improve our existing transit network, reduce travel times across the region and reduce harmful emissions.

Using dedicated lanes, modern platform stations, larger buses and other improvements, the Madison BRT system will reduce travel times by up to 25 percent and improve the experience of riding the bus.

At the same time, Metro is engaged in a comprehensive redesign of its entire system. The goal is to improve Metro’s existing service so that it better meets the needs of Madison residents and businesses.

The network redesign process will change all of Madison’s bus routes to make them run faster, more frequently, and overall make them easier to use. It will also integrate regular bus routes with the BRT system to make an efficient transit network.

Before the onset of Covid-19, Metro’s service was oriented mainly towards peak hour routes with limited service during middays, evenings and weekends. The redesign will better allocate service so that it benefits more residents during more parts of the day and week.

To make Metro’s service reboot work the best for everyone, we need your help. Tell us what you think about Metro Transit service. What would you like to see? What should be improved? What destinations should Metro be serving better?

Your opinion matters. Please fill out Metro’s Transit Choices Survey and give your goals and priorities for the future redesigned transit network.

After completing the survey, you can continue to give input and follow this project by attending future public engagement meetings and hearings. To receive notices and updates on times and locations, sign up for email and text alerts at mymetrobus.com/alerts.

Service changes related to the redesign are expected to start in August of 2022 with additional updates expected in 2023. Metro’s BRT system is then targeted to go online during the fall of 2024.
