Julia head shot

Julia has been volunteering at the Senior Center for almost a year.  She is a smiling face at the front desk where she handles phone calls, helps with questions, and assists with clerical tasks.

Julia was also selected as one of our AASPIRE interns for the summer, which means she's earning money for college and gaining additional experience by attending city government meetings.

We got to know some more about her  in a mini interview:

Favorite celebrity over 55 and why?

Sir Ian McKellen, because he’s Gandalf and he narrated the audio book for The Odyssey

What do you enjoy most about Madison summer?

Sitting on the patio/outside at restaurants and people watching.

Favorite Candy?

Dark chocolate covered pretzels

Favorite Madison Hang Out?

The Chocolaterian

Favorite city outside of Wisconsin?

My favorite Aunt lives in Durham, NH. She’s got this cozy house with giant bay windows that never have curtains covering them because the house is so tucked away in the wilderness that she thinks she doesn’t need them. We’d get freshly made bagels in the morning from “The Bagelry” where my cousin worked and visit this shop called “Good Juju” which I loved because, you know, my name is JU-lia. It’s just a great place.

What’s the one food you could never bring yourself to eat?

Cottage Cheese

What’s your favorite childhood book?

The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Andrews
