We are now in the month August, and which means that National Senior Citizens Day is coming up. This holiday was signed into proclamation in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan. On this day we adults over the age of 60 and continue to raise awareness about issues that affect senior citizens and their quality of life. President Regan said that this holiday was “For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute. We can best demonstrate our gratitude and esteem by making sure that our communities are good places in which to mature and grow older- places in which older people can participate to the fullest and can find the encouragement acceptance, assistance, and services they need to continue to lead lives of independence and dignity.”

This Senior Citizens Day take the time to support one another, recognize your achievements and reminiscent over your story. Some other ways you can honor this day include sharing stories with your loved ones, volunteering, attending events/programs for seniors, and spending time with other seniors.

We at the Madison Senior Center love creating events and programing for you all, and are excited to continue to welcome you all as the year progresses. Our hours for this month will be Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4 pm. Please remember to register to attend events or to set up an appointment for training in the Computer Lab.
