City Engineering Earns State Award for Garver Path Project

Congratulations to the City of Madison Engineering Division for earning a state finalist award for its work on Garver Path. Public Works and Private Development Deputy City Engineer Chris Petykowski accepted the award at the American Council of Engineering Companies Honors Ceremony in April with KL Engineering’s Aaron Steger and Samantha Herheim.
Background on Garver Path Project
The Garver Path is located on the east side of Madison, Wisconsin, in an area that features residential neighborhoods with majestic trees, the historic Garver Feed Mill, O.B. Sherry Park, and wetlands near Starkweather Creek. KL Engineering led the design engineering for the Garver Path project, which is a mile-long connector trail that now links the community to the Capital City Trail, a popular recreational pathway for walking, running, and biking, and the greater trail system. The project includes two new bridges over Starkweather Creek, and one new bridge over a wetland area, providing new pedestrian and bicycle access through the neighborhood. The project also included a significant reduction in pavement width on Starkweather Drive to protect the trees and shoreline wildlife habitat along the roadway and creek.
