Subject: Update on COVID-19 Related Issues

Dear Colleagues -

I would like to update you on a few COVID-19 related issues.

Vaccines Available for 6 Months to 5 Years

Children ages 6 months to 5 years are now eligible for the vaccine! Data from extensive clinical trials show both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are safe and effective for children. COVID-19 is a threat for young kids: Only about half of young children who have been hospitalized had an underlying medical condition – the other half were healthy children with no prior conditions. The vaccine is the best way to protect children from becoming severely ill or having long-lasting health impacts due to COVID-19.

Public Health Madison & Dane County recommends first checking with your child’s pediatrician to see if they can vaccinate. Public Health has appointments available and will have doses at mobile clinics (while supplies last). Find other vaccinators by visiting vaccines.gov.

Remember to Stay Up to Date on Vaccinations

Staff are encouraged to keep up to date on COVID-19 vaccination. Being up to date means that you’ve completed the initial course of vaccination and any recommended boosters.

Boosters – Get Them Now!

Nearly everyone ages 5 and up is eligible for a COVID-19 booster. Check your eligibility and book an appointment either through your doctor, by finding a provider at vaccines.gov, or through Public Health Madison & Dane County.

Just a reminder -

  • All staff are required to share COVID-19 vaccination status updates with your Agency’s designee for collecting COVID-19 vaccination attestation forms.
  • Agency designees are required to document COVID-19 vaccination and booster status in the COVID-19 Vaccines SharePoint site on an ongoing basis.
  • Supervisors, please ensure all new hires sign the Vaccination Attestation form and all staff keep the Agency designee informed of receipt of booster shots ongoing.

This information can also be found on the Vaccination Guidance for City Employees page.

Emergency Paid Leave Now Available with At-Home Test

The Emergency Paid Leave Guidance has been updated.

Employees must show proof of a positive COVID-19 test result to their supervisor in order to access the Emergency Paid Leave benefit. Either a positive at-home test or a positive PCR test is needed.

This change removes the potential to access Emergency Paid Leave for “seeking a diagnosis,” because we now allow a positive at-home rapid test, which is readily available. You can order free tests for your household from the federal government and they are delivered to your mailbox. You can also find at-home tests in stores, pharmacies and online. Health insurers are required to reimburse up to eight tests per month, per member. Check with your insurance provider for details.

Employees who are seeking diagnosis (i.e. awaiting a positive test result) must use sick leave until proof of a positive test result (PCR test or at-home test) is available to be shared with your supervisor.

Accessing Mask Supply

The City maintains a supply of masks (cloth, disposable 3-ply, KN-95 and N-95) for use by City employees. Departments should contact Stephen King, Engineering Facilities Coordinator, at srking@cityofmadison.com to request a supply of masks for distribution to employees. Please include the following info in your email: quantity and type of masks requested and location to which they should be delivered.

Be well,

Mayor Satya
