Child Care Resources for Metro Employees
The Metro Equity Team acknowledges that finding child care is a potential barrier for employment, particularly for operator and mechanic positions with non-standard, or varying work hours.
To assist, the team has put together a list of child care resources and programs that are available to City staff. Employees are also encouraged to contact the Early Care and Education/ Community Development Division in the City of Madison's DPCED for questions, help or support.

- The Child Care finder can assist families with locating child care options in their areas. The search is easy to use and can provide information on regulatory violations, programs specifics such as hours of operation, ages and transportation, and will show the Star level of any regulated programs in Wisconsin.
- 4C is the local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency and soon to be, family resource center. Staff at 4C are funded by the City and the State to support families who are looking for child care options. They provide services in multiple languages and can assist families with navigating the sometime cumbersome state systems. 4C also provides one-on-one service for families so if there are complex needs, 4c can assist long term with finding care options.
Wisconsin Shares Child Care Subsidy
- WI Shares can support families who earn up to 180% of the Federal Poverty level. This program is managed by the State and run by the County.
City of Madison Child Care Tuition Assistance
- This program is run by the City’s Child Care Unit and can support families that earn up to 300% of the FPL or families that are experiencing extraordinary circumstances. Each family must be ineligible for participation in the Wisconsin Shares Child Care Subsidy. Rommel Tijerino is the Tuition Assistance Coordinator and can assist families with determining eligibility and assist families with finding care in City of Madison Accredited programs. Rommel is also available to discuss child care subsidy options if families are looking for more information.
