Door Creek Park Shelter

Last Updated: 10/21/2021

The design process for a new shelter at Door Creek Park is underway!

The Parks Division is working with City Engineering and Aro Eberle Architects on a new, multi-season shelter building for Door Creek Park. The new shelter was identified as a desired park amenity in the adopted park master plan (Door Creek Park Master Plan). The project is part of the Parks Division's continuing effort to implement master plan recommendations.

Second Community Meeting
The Parks Division held the second community meeting for the new park shelter on Thursday, November 18th. At the virtual meeting, Parks staff and the project consultant team reviewed two shelter design options. Of the two options discussed, Option Two was favored over Option One.  Meeting attendees also expressed concern regarding after-hours activity in the park and requested additional parking lot and building lighting. The project includes additional parking lot lights and the shelter design will incorporate exterior building lighting.

Meeting Two presentation materials included:

The next steps for the project include a review by the City's Urban Design Commission and the development of a detailed cost estimate of the preferred option. Please contact Mike Sturm, the City of Madison Parks Division project manager, at, if you are unable to attend and would like to share your thoughts on the project.

First Community Meeting
The first public meeting was held virtually on Tuesday, April 27th. The design team introduced the project and reviewed existing conditions, site opportunities and constraints, and the current building program. The intent was to gather initial input from park users and area residents prior to developing specific design options for Door Creek Park. In addition to the consultant team's presentation, Parks and Engineering staff were be available for questions regarding the project.

Presentation materials included:

Future project updates will be posted at this location, with notifications sent to the Sprecher East Neighborhood Association, District 3 representative, and via the Parks Division's social media outlets.

This project is a collaboration between Madison Parks and the City of Madison Engineering Division. The City of Madison Engineering Division is managing the design and implementation of the shelter, visit Engineering's Door Creek Park Shelter for more information.
