Door Creek Park Shelter

Last Updated: 05/03/2023

Latest Update

The Door Creek Park Shelter project was let for City of Madison Public Works bidding on February 2, 2023. Due to the limited number of bidders, the bid timeframe was extended from March 9 to April 20, 2023. No contractor bids were received, and the project will be re-bid in June, with an anticipated May 2025 construction completion date. The extended construction timeframe provides a greater opportunity for contractors to include the project in their work plans.

UDC Review
The Parks Division then presented the selected option to the Urban Design Commission (UDC) on February 23, 2022. The Commission approved the proposed building, and the project proceeded to construction drawing development and Public Works bidding.

Community Meeting 2
The Parks Division held a second community meeting for the new park shelter on Thursday, November 18th. At the virtual meeting, Parks staff and the project consultant team reviewed two shelter design options. Of the two options discussed, Option Two was favored over Option One.  Meeting attendees also expressed concern regarding after-hours activity in the park and requested additional parking lot and building lighting. The project includes additional parking lot lights and the shelter design will incorporate exterior building lighting.

Project Background

The Parks Division is working with City Engineering and Aro Eberle Architects on a new, 4,000 sf, multi-season shelter building for Door Creek Park. The new shelter was identified as a desired park amenity in the adopted park master plan (Door Creek Park Master Plan). The project is part of the Parks Division's continuing effort to implement master plan recommendations.

The Door Creek Park Shelter is a collaboration between Madison Parks and the City of Madison Engineering Division. The City of Madison Engineering Division is managing the design and implementation of the shelter, visit Engineering's Door Creek Park Shelter for more information.
