Plan will develop a shared vision for the future

Tonight the City of Madison officially kicks off the public process for developing a plan for the future of South Madison. South Madison residents of the City of Madison, Town of Madison, the business community, and other stakeholders are encouraged to attend this important first meeting to create a shared vision for South Madison. Tonight’s meeting will focus on “Assets, Opportunities & Challenges” and will be held at the Catholic Multicultural Center at 1862 Beld St., from 6:00pm until 7:45pm. Light refreshments, childcare, and interpreters (Spanish and Hmong) will be provided.

In 2022, a portion of the Town of Madison will be attached to the City and will add approximately 2,500 new City residents within the planning area. “This is a great opportunity for residents of South Madison and Town of Madison to come together and contribute to the future of the south side,” said Alder Sheri Carter (Dist 14).

The planning area is bounded by Wingra Creek on the north, John Nolen Dr. on the east, W Betline Hwy on the south, and Fish Hatchery Rd. on the west. The City will be working with the community to gather input on various topics such as economic development, land use, housing, transportation, sustainability, food access, cultural resources, and many other aspects that affect well-being.

Two additional Community Impact Sessions are scheduled over the next two months, including: “Visioning & Guiding Principles” on Thursday, October 24th at the Urban league of Greater Madison, 2222 S Park St., from 6:00pm until 7:45pm.; and “Key Issues, Strategies & Solutions” on Thursday, November 21st at The Village on Park (Atrium), 2300 S Park St., from 6:00pm until 7:45pm.
