The Madison City Clerk's Office and Associated Students of Madison will simulate an election on Tuesday, November 15, to register voters and determine how the recent changes in state elections law will affect voting on campus.

The mock election will take place in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Students will vote on their favorite Babcock Hall ice cream flavor and favorite marching band song.

Regular City of Madison polling places will not be open.

Although the election is pretend, the voter registrations will be real.

Election Officials will keep track of what students say they would have used as proof of address if it had been a real Election Day. Voters are no longer able to use a corroborating witness as proof of address when registering on Election Day or within 20 days of an election. No proof of address will be required on Tuesday.

The Election Officials will also keep track of what students present as photo ID. The new election laws permit the use of an unexpired student ID card as photo ID as long as it is accompanied by proof of current enrollment, is issued by a Wisconsin accredited college or university, contains the student's signature, shows an issuance date, and shows an expiration date within two years of issuance.

The City Clerk's Office has scheduled 132 presentations and workshops so far to educate voters about the new laws.
