This Tuesday the City of Madison will join hundreds of communities nationwide in celebrating National Voter Registration Day.

Although the City Clerk’s Office has set up 33 voter registration drives, many voters will be able to register to vote from home. Voters who have a Wisconsin driver license or Wisconsin ID can completely register online at https://MyVote.wi.gov as long as they have updated their address with the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Those who have moved since they last voted are encouraged to update their registration this week. Voter registration can be verified at https://MyVote.wi.gov.

Founded in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is a non-partisan celebration of democracy focused on facilitating the right to vote.

The City Clerk’s Office will hold voter registration drives throughout the city on Tuesday:

• Saturday, September 30, as part of the Pop-Up Market at Salvation Army Community Center, 3030 Darbo Dr, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Proof of Address
Proof of address, either on paper or in an electronic format, is required for all voter registrations that are not completely submitted online (proof of address is verified with the DMV for online submissions). The following types of documents are acceptable as proof of address, showing the voter’s name and current address:

• Utility bill that covers a time frame within the past 90 days (water, gas, electric, cable, internet, landline or cellular phone)
• Bank or credit union statement
• Current and valid Wisconsin driver license or Wisconsin identification card
• Paycheck or pay stub
• Document issued by a unit of government (this includes a public school, Madison College, or UW-Madison)
• Check issued by a unit of government
• Affidavit from an agency (public or private) providing homeless services
• Edgewood College fee statement, accompanied by an Edgewood College student ID
• Intake document from a residential care facility

The types of proof of address most commonly used in the City of Madison are Wisconsin driver license/ID cards, Madison Water Utility bills, Madison Gas & Electric bills, and UW-Madison documents.

The state has eliminated Special Registration Deputies, so the City Clerk’s Office needs a copy of the proof of address document presented at a voter registration drive. If the proof of address is presented on a smart phone or computer, a screen shot of the document can be sent electronically to por@cityofmadison.com. Otherwise, a hard copy of the document will need to be submitted along with the voter registration form.

The City of Madison currently has 176,600 registered voters.
