Provisional voters have until 4 p.m. Friday to provide the City Clerk's Office with their photo identification. The Board of Canvassers will meet at 4 p.m. Friday to count the provisional ballots of voters who meet this deadline.

Sixteen provisional ballots were issued at City of Madison polling places on Tuesday. As of 2 p.m. Thursday, five of those voters had followed through so their ballots could be counted.

Under current law, provisional voters may provide their missing documentation to the Clerk's Office in person, via e-mail, or via fax. In the City of Madison, librarians at every branch library are able to verify identification and forward a copy of the ID to the City Clerk's Office.

The law is very specific about what forms of identification can be used for voting purposes:
• Wisconsin driver's license expiring no earlier than 11/2/10
• Wisconsin DOT-issued photo ID card expiring no earlier than 11/2/10
• U.S. passport expiring no earlier than 11/2/10
• Military ID card expiring no earlier than 11/2/10
• Certificate of naturalization issued within last 2 years
• Unexpired Wisconsin driver's license or state ID receipt
• ID card issued by a federally recognized Indian tribe in Wisconsin
• Unexpired ID issued by a Wisconsin accredited university or college-must contain issuance date, student signature, and expiration date within 2 years of issuance-along with proof of current enrollment

The ID does not need to show a voter's current address.

In addition to counting provisional ballots on Friday, the Board of Canvassers will also count absentee ballots postmarked by Election Day and received in the Clerk's Office on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of this week.
