Due to an increase in the price of carts, the Streets Division will be increasing the price charged to residents and businesses.  Effective immediately the price for the purchase of additional refuse and recycling carts will be going up $5.  A 35 gallon cart will cost $55, a 65 gallon cart will cost $60, and a 95 gallon cart will cost $65.

"These charges are for the purchase of additional refuse or recycling carts only," strategic initiatives coordinator George Dreckmann said.  " We will continue to furnish one refuse and one recycling cart for each of our customers at no charge.  There will also be no fee to switch cart sizes."

Most collection carts are the property of the City of Madison and must be left at the residence when people move.  The only exception are those carts which residents or businesses purchase.  Only carts supplied by the City of Madison can be used for City collection services.
