There is a national effort to limit the spread and impact of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). A national plan, coordinated by the United States Department of Agriculture, Animal Plant Health Inspection Service, guides what federal, state and local officials must do to manage this insect.  The City of Madison established an EAB Task Force in January of 2008. In 2013, EAB was discovered in Madison. The City of Madison Adopted the Emerald Ash Borer Plan on September 20, 2012.  The Emerald Ash Borer Plan is updated by the City of Madison Emerald Ash Borer Task Force.

1. Ash Trees on City of Madison Park property are managed by the Parks Division.
2. Ash Trees within City of Madison road right-of-way (street trees) are managed by the Forestry Section.  Please contact the Forestry Division regarding street trees.
3. Ash Trees on City of Madison Engineering property (stormwater, landfills, etc.) are managed by the Engineering Division.

As part of the City's efforts to address Emerald Ash Borer in City of Madison Parks, City staff will be systematically removing and replacing unadopted ash trees throughout the park system.  For information on how to adopt an ash tree visit Adopt a Park Tree.
