Please join us to meet and greet the artist finalists chosen to design a water feature for Frances Plaza.

Friday, April 4, 2008
Noon to 1:00 pm
Promenade Terrace
Overture Center for the Arts

We would like for these nationally known artists to have the opportunity to hear from citizens who are interested in the design of Madison's public spaces. If you want to share your opinions with them, please come to the Overture Center meeting on April 4th and let them know what you want them to keep in mind as they begin designing our City's next major public art project.

At this listening session you will have the chance to ask the artists specific questions about their approach to artmaking and let them know what is important to you about public art, Frances Plaza, State Street, and Madison. This is a great opportunity to tell them how this water feature could best be designed as a gateway to State Street and a lasting enhancement to our community.

The five finalists are:

ActualSize from Stoughton, Wisconsin
Tom Askman from Cheney, Washington
Myklebust + Sears from Stockholm, Wisconsin
Stoller Studio from Portola Valley, California
Howard Ben Tre from Pawtucket, Rhode Island

You can see examples of the finalist's past work, at the Madison Arts Commission website under public art opportunities http://www.cityofmadison.com/MAC/public/opportunities.cfm.

This is just the beginning of many opportunities to offer public input and opinion. If you have questions about the Frances Plaza Public Art Project or are unable to attend the Friday meeting, but you have comments you would like to share with the selection committee or the artists themselves, please send them to kwolf@cityofmadison.com.

Individual interviews with each of the five finalists will be broadcast on Madison City Channel 12 and on the web in April. The viewing schedule will be posted at www.cityofmadison.com/mcc12/.
