Electronics must be delivered to the Streets Division’s drop-off sites, or to a reputable private electronics recycler in the area that will protect your data and handle the material safely. They should not be set out to curb.

Many common electronic items, like televisions, computers, and printers, are banned from landfills in Wisconsin. These items should not be placed to the curb or in the collection carts.

Many other items like Christmas tree lights and vacuums can be recycled at the drop-off sites, too. Visit the Street’s Division’s website for more details.

Guidelines for Television Recycling
Do not place televisions at the curb for collection. They must be brought to a drop-off site for recycling. A recycling fee sticker is required for each unit recycled.

Guidelines for Computers, Laptops, and Monitors Recycling
Do not place computers, monitors, or laptops at the curb for collection. They too must be delivered to a drop-off site for recycling. There is a recycling fee for each computer or laptop.

Drop-off Sites Information
Residents can bring one load a day of refuse, recycling, large items, or the other items accepted at the drop-off site.

Drop-off sites are for City of Madison residents and taxpayers only. Contractors may not use these facilities. Since the City of Madison is part of the Wisconsin DNR e-Cycle program, businesses may not use the drop-off sites for electronics recycling, either.

In order to use the sites, individuals must provide proof they are a resident of the City of Madison. Many individuals show their driver’s license, but other official documents like utility bills or rental agreements can work as well.

Users of the drop-off sites are restricted to one trip a day and the single load cannot be larger than what would fit into a standard pick-up truck bed or small single-axle trailer. Loads larger than those guidelines will be denied access.

The drop-off sites are located at 4602 Sycamore Ave. and 1501 W. Badger Rd.

They are open 7:30am to 2:50pm Monday to Friday. The sites are open 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday.

Due to ongoing restrictions and the limited hours, individuals using the drop-off sites should expect to encounter long lines.

Order the Stickers You Need Now
Residents may purchase a recycling fee sticker online, over the phone, or via the mail. There are no in-person options for sticker purchases at this time due to the ongoing pandemic. Stickers are mailed following a successful purchase.
