On Thursday, July 26, the Regent Street - South Campus Neighborhood Plan Steering Committee will be hosting a public meeting to receive input on preliminary development scenarios created for the future of this neighborhood. This is the third in a series of five large-scale public meetings. Input on topics such as building heights, land use, and density was provided at previous meetings and utilized in developing the current proposals.

The meeting, which will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Neighborhood House Community Center, 29 S. Mills Street, is part of a process initiated by the City of Madison to develop a plan to guide the future of the Regent Street - South Campus area. The process covers the area generally bounded by Monroe St., Randall Ave., Johnson St., Murray St., and Regent St. (both sides), and is scheduled to last through August. Business and property owners, residents, students, and others with and interest in the future of this area are encouraged to attend the meeting.

The goal of this effort is to establish a clear set of land use policies to guide redevelopment, preservation, and other activities within the area in a comprehensive manner. The project will focus primarily on land use and physical design issues, including developing a set of design guidelines to that will address, at a minimum: allowable residential densities, building heights, scale, and massing. Other issues will also be addressed, including transportation issues (especially pedestrian, bicycle, and transit modes, and automobile parking), parks and open space, and creating a vibrant business district.

This effort is being funded through $20,000 from the City of Madison, $20,000 from Dane County's BUILD Program, $15,000 from the UW-Madison, and approximately $20,000 from other donors.
