On Wednesday, April 9, Metro Transit and the City of Madison Transit and Parking Commission will hold a public hearing at 6 PM to proposed service changes to Routes 8, 14, 15, 19, 26, 36, 44, 48, 50, 59, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, and 78. Changes are proposed to go into effect during the last week of August.

Interested persons are encouraged to attend the public hearing to give feedback. Consideration will be given to views and comments expressed at the public hearing as well as to all written comments received.

The Madison Municipal Building is accessible to people who use mobility aids and is equipped with assistive listening devices.

Proposed Changes

Route 8: Proposal to link route to Route 78 on Saturdays allowing for direct service between Middleton, UW Campus and downtown area. Route would move from old University Ave. to Campus Dr. Weekend/holiday service removed on Old Middleton Rd. and Capital Ave.

Routes 14, 15: Evening schedule adjustments.

Route 19: Schedule adjustments.

Route 26: Added trips between 6 PM – 10:30 PM.

Route 36: Service frequency reduced after 6 PM from 30 minutes to 60 minutes.

Route 44: Expanded service to Swan Creek of Nine Springs neighborhood. Route would become loop that offers service from neighborhood to Fitchburg destinations including Agrace Hospice Care and UW campus. Nobel Dr. loop and Gilson St./Olin Ave. loop proposed to be eliminated.

Route 48: Route realignment to accommodate changes to Route 44.

Route 50: Service frequency increased during mid-days and evenings from 60 minutes to 30 minutes.

Route 59: Stops added on Allied Dr. Route becomes loop providing service between Allied Dr. and Target/HyVee. Service removed from portions of Crescent Rd., Allied Dr., Williamsburg Way, and Fitchrona Rd. Service added on portions of Whitney Way, Hardrock Rd., and Allied Dr.

Route 70: Redesign to west end of route. Removal of one reverse commute trip. (Trip added to Route 72). New service on Franklin Ave., Park St. and Park Lawn Pl.

Route 71: Redesign west of Parmenter St.  Schedule adjustments. Reverse commute trips added.

Route 72: Added service area along Parmenter St. north of University Ave. Redesign of reverse commute service. Service area added to far northwest corner of Middleton (served previously by Route 74). New service on Franklin Ave., Park St. and Park Lawn Pl.

Route 73: Route redesign for the Deming Way/John Q. Hammonds Dr. loop. Off-peak schedules operate on the hour.

Route 74: Route eliminated. Some service area covered by redesigned Route 72.

Route 78: Redesign of Middleton loop. Proposed to be combined with Route 8 on Saturdays. Eliminates direct link from Middleton to West Transfer Point. Provides direct service from Middleton to the UW Campus and Capitol Square. Service removed along Mendota Ave.
