A 20 Year Tradition

Madison Parks is pleased to continue our partnership with Lake View Elementary School to celebrate Earth Day, Arbor Day, and the United Way’s Global Youth Service Day.

For 20 years, we have hosted an annual event complete with a tree planting, park clean-up and other special events with the students of Lake View Elementary School at Warner Park. Tomorrow, Tuesday April 22, 2014 at 11:30AM, we continue the tradition.

“The City of Madison is pleased to celebrate Earth Day with our friends at Lake View Elementary,” says Mayor Paul Soglin. “I had the honor of sharing the stage with Senator Gaylord Nelson at the first Earth Day event in 1970 at UW-Madison. And I am honored to keep the Earth Day tradition going with today’s youth.”

Beginning at 11:15 AM, all of Lake View Elementary students will march from their school to Warner Park. The City of Madison Police Department will provide an escort across Northport Drive and Sherman Avenue.

At 11:30 AM, we will begin the tree planting program near the Warner Park shelter with special guests, Mayor Paul Soglin, State Assembly Representative Melissa Sargent, and representatives from Madison Parks and the United Way of Dane County.

Madison Parks would like to thank everyone who has made this annual event such a success for the past 20 years!
