At the start of Earth Month, as the winter and spring seasons clash, we begin our celebration of 50 years of conservation parks in Madison. This land, once shaped by glaciers continues to be shaped and treasured by humans. Madison’s conservation parks tell a story of the people and the land.

Throughout 2022 we will celebrate these uniquely managed lands through stories, videos and events. The first video in the series shares a sweeping overview of the land and highlights a few of the 21 designated conservation parklands. Narrated by Conservation Resources Supervisor, Paul Quinlan, he boasts, "Madison is fortunate to have such a large healthy park system, and the conservation park program adds a special facet to this beautiful place." Future videos, launching later this year, will spotlight conservation parks Edna Taylor, Owen and Cherokee Marsh, North Unit. Look for these to drop later this spring, summer, and fall on the Parks new YouTube channel.

Conservation Park Tours, led by conservation staff, continues again this year and features the three spotlighted parks and more. The walking tours, held on the 2nd Wednesday of May through October, are always free to attend with no registration required.

Each conservation park offers visitors glimpses of the past while enjoying the wildlife and nature of today. We continue to learn and through partnerships and volunteers, both past and present, we work to preserve the land and make it accessible for generations to explore and enjoy.
