The Streets Division has suspended large item collection until the clean up from the recent snowstorm is finished. Crews and vehicles that are usually assigned to large items are needed for snow removal operations. Large items are things that will not fit inside the tan refuse carts including furniture, appliances, carpet and tires.

"Large item collection is often suspended during snow and ice operations," Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said. "Yesterday's snow storm was the second biggest on record and we will need all of our staff and equipment for snow removal operations until some time in the future."

A decision on when to resume large item collection will be made next week. The Street Division will announce when the collection will resume. Residents are asked to hold on to their large items until collection resumes.

"Items already placed at the curb can remain there, but they may have to be dug out of the snow banks by residents before they can be collected," Dreckmann said.

Large items can also be brought to the City's drop off sites at 1501 W. Badger Rd and 4602 Sycamore Av. The sites are currently open winter hours M-F form 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Use of these sites is limited to City of Madison residents and property owners only.

The Streets Division will continue to conduct regular refuse and recycling collection.
