The City of Madison Forestry section is working in cooperation with the Dane County Gypsy Moth Coordinator, elected officials, neighborhood residents and the WI DNR to track and attempt to suppress the invasive species gypsy moth. Annually in late fall, the City of Madison Forestry staff will survey for gypsy moth egg masses reported by Madison residents. The goal is to count and record egg mass locations throughout the City and use that data to apply to the Dane County Gypsy Moth Coordinator for aerial spray applications in the spring of 2009.

We need your help! Madison homeowners can help by alerting city forestry officials of gypsy moth activity during this past spring and summer months. The gypsy moth activity includes the following life stages: caterpillar, pupae, adult and egg masses. Currently residents may find egg masses on their trees, house, fence, boat trailers, ... anywhere! Do NOT disturb the egg masses at this time. Instead call the Forestry Section, 266-4816, so the egg masses can be counted and recorded.
