Former American Planning Association President Shares Insights

City of Madison Planning Division announces a Happy Hour Chat with New York City Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver on Friday, October 7. Commissioner Silver will provide insights for the upcoming update to the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The event, which is free and open to the public, will run from 4:30pm to 7:00pm at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. Hors d’oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available.
 
In addition to his current position as Commissioner of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, Mitchell Silver has served as the President of the American Planning Association, Chief Planning and Development Officer for Raleigh, NC, and in numerous other planning and policy roles in New York City and Washington, DC. Known by his colleagues as a passionate communicator, creative thinker, problem solver, and visionary leader, Commissioner Silver has been at the center of many cutting edge trends, innovative solutions, and visionary plans. He is an action maker with a focus on “investing in our people and communities.”
 
Commissioner Silver will speak about national trends affecting Madison, the importance and relevance of a Comprehensive Plan, strategies to engage residents in the planning process, and developing a plan that leads to action. A brief question and answer session will follow his remarks.

Commissioner Silver will also provide the keynote address for the Mayor’s Neighborhood Conference, also occurring at Monona Terrace, on Saturday, October 8, from 8am to 5pm.
