Pinney Library is hosting a day-long Earth Day celebration

In recognition of Earth Day, Pinney Library is hosting a variety of events celebrating sustainable living and one of Madison’s favorite pastimes, biking. With festivities starting at 10:00am and lasting until 3:30pm, there is plenty of fun for everyone to enjoy all day long. It is also encouraged that everyone wear a helmet and ride their bike to Pinney because those who do so will receive a limited edition sticker, a great item with which to decorate a bike or helmet.

Events of the day include:

10:00am – 12:00pm • “Trash to Treasure” with tetraPAKMAN – Be a part of tetraPAKMAN’s community art project as he continues his world tour. Anyone interested is encouraged to bring in any recycled or inorganic materials and use them to create unconventional art that is both beautiful and environmentally conscious. This workshop, provided by the Madison Arts Commission, is funded by a Public Arts Project Grant. More information on the project can be found at madisonbubbler.org/meadowridge-art-project

11:00am – 1:00pm • Bicycle Button Making – Stop in at the crafts table to make a button out of your favorite bicycle or earth themed image.

11:00am – 3:00pm • “Fuel Your Ride” – Join Willy Street Co-op to create your own on-the-go trail mix for those future spring and summer bike rides.

1:00pm – 3:00pm • Bike Maintenance – Here is another excuse to ride your bike to Pinney. The bike maintenance experts from Revolution Cycles will be there to give quick bike check-ups and provide at-home maintenance tips that will help get your bike in peak performance condition.

2:00pm – 3:30pm • Car Free Klezmer and Yid Vicious – End the day with a screening of the short film Car Free Klezmer and a Q&A with director Brian Standing. This locally made documentary features bicycle commuters and Madison Metro passengers describing the ins and outs of their car free commuting experiences as well as local musicians Yid Vicious inspiring spontaneous bouts of bike path dancing. Following the screening, local musicians Yid Vicious will be joining in on the fun, hosting a live performance to finish up the celebration.

While you’re at the Pinney Library, check out their Sustainable Living collection featuring books and DVDs on topics from gardening to sustainable business practices to eco-friendly design.  The collection was funded with a Dane County Collection Grant from Madison Community Foundation.  Pinney’s Earth Day Celebration is made possible by generous support from the Friends of Pinney Library.
