The Emerson East-Eken Park-Yahara Steering Committee has been working since January 2014 to update the 1998 Emerson East-Eken Park Neighborhood Plan.  Appointed by the Mayor and Common Council, the Steering Committee has been guiding the neighborhood planning process, working with the City project team, soliciting input from residents, the business community and other stakeholders, and creating a Draft Neighborhood Plan.  The main topics covered by the draft plan include land use, housing and urban design; economic development and employment opportunities; transportation safety and efficiency; parks, recreation and open space; and community health and wellness. The Neighborhood Plan will be adopted as part of the City of Madison Comprehensive Plan.

To facilitate further discussion and input on the draft plan, the Steering Committee, City staff and alders will be hosting a public Open House on June 9, 2015.  The Open House will start at 5:30 p.m. at the John Wall Family Pavilion at Tenney Park, 1414 E. Johnson Street.  Members of the public and interested parties are encouraged to come to the Open House to view the draft plan, ask questions of Steering Committee members, City staff and alders, and share comments. 

The draft plan will be available starting on June 9th at the Open House, on the project webpage, at the library and through other venues.  There will be a three week public comment period following the release of the draft plan.
