City Engineering staff will continue to support critical public services both remotely and in the field.  The Engineering Division is working to make sure that public and private projects continue to make progress while the City responds to COVID-19.

Engineering offices are not open to the public at this time, and a date to reopen has not been set. Public Health continues to monitor the conditions in our community, and we will open when appropriate.  Thank you for your understanding as we all work to keep Madison safe and healthy.

Office Staff
Design staff are responding to emails, voicemails, field inspections and following up on drainage/erosion concerns.  If you have general questions for the Engineering Division, email engineer@cityofmadison.com.

Operations Staff
Our Operations team is working as normal.  If you have questions or concerns for our Operation/Maintenance Section (sanitary or storm back-ups, dead animals in the Right of Way, etc.), call 608-266-4430. If after hours, a dispatcher will route your call appropriately.

Engineering Construction Services
Our Construction Engineering group is continuing work on public works construction projects.  At this time, no changes have been made to proposed construction projects.  If you have a question about a specific project, visit the City’s Projects webpage. Each project page has a direct staff contact involved in the project.

Permits
Most permits are being processed as normal. The majority of our permits (including permits to excavate in the Right of Way) are completed online or via email.  If you need to submit a paper permit, mail it to City Engineering, 1600 Emil Street, Madison WI 53713. The request will be logged in and directed to appropriate staff.

Erosion control permits, stormwater management permits and permits to plug/abandon sanitary sewer laterals are processed out of our downtown location, which is closed to the public.  Applications and checks can be mailed to City Engineering 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd Room 115, Madison, WI 53703. Please include contact information. You will get confirmation after your payment is received and processed.

Impact Fee Payments
Please contact Brenda Stanley, bstanley@cityofmadison.com directly to determine the fee. Fees may be mailed to our main office (City-County Building, Room 115, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) Include your name, address the fee is related to, phone number, email on your paperwork.
