Incident Type:
Lake Rescue
Dispatch:
Sunday, August 23, 2015 - 2:57pm
Address:
3400 Atwood Ave, Olbrich Public Launch on Lake Monona
Madison, WI
Narrative:

On the afternoon of Sunday, August 23rd, a 911 call from a Tonyawatha resident helped save two canoeists that had flipped over in rough Monona waters.

This is just another case of life jackets that kept people afloat until rescue personnel arrived.

Madison Fire Department Lake Rescue team launched their boat from the Olbrich Public Launch due to rough waters.  Early spotters from the Fire and Police Department, with binoculars from shore, gave the Lake Rescue Team exact directions to rescue the two people that were staying afloat with life jackets about ½ mile out from shore. They also located their canoe and towed occupants and boat to safety.

There were no injuries but boaters should be aware of rough water and always wear their life jackets.
