Arrival:
Tuesday, September 22, 2015 - 3:10pm
Address:
100 W. Washington Ave.
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Firefighters were called to the 100 block of W. Washington Ave. Tuesday for a possible structure fire on the 7th floor. Crews encountered light smoke in the hallway and in the affected unit.

Engine 4 identified a garbage disposal that was running, and the cabinet underneath the sink was charred and hot to the touch.

Firefighters determined that a fire in the motor of the garbage disposal burned a hole through the disposal’s water supply. As water continued to run through the line, it put the fire out.

The resident wasn’t home at the time. It was a neighbor who heard the smoke detector sounding and called for assistance.
