900 block W. Badger Road
Madison, WI
Narrative:

Two people were displaced as a result of a fire inside a W. Badger Road apartment Monday night.

Ladder Co. 6 and other Madison Fire companies were dispatched to 918 W. Badger Road at 10:47 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found gray smoke coming from two second-story windows and smoke detectors sounding. All occupants had safely evacuated.

Firefighters entered the building with a hose line in hand and found dark gray smoke banked along the ceiling of the second-floor stair landing. More smoke, banked almost all the way down to the floor, was found in one of the apartment units. Ladder 6’s crew located the fire and extinguished it. Meanwhile, additional fire crews performed search and rescue, confirming everybody had made it out of the building safely. Ladder Co. 1 provided a fan to ventilate smoke from the apartment unit and hallway.

The fire appeared to involve a plastic trash can in the kitchen; however, the cause of the fire could not be positively identified. Tenants denied any use of smoking materials or knowledge of any other source that could have caused the fire. Firefighters did not find positive ignition sources amid the melted debris.
