Join the FUN (Friends of Urban Nature) at the Madison FUN Bird and Nature Festival! This free, family-friendly afternoon event celebrates Madison Bird City, Arbor Day and Earth Day with an exploration in nature. Kids will love the hands-on activities at the shelter, a nearby tree planting, games and a short walk. A special presentation at 1:00 pm by Hoo's Woods featuring a live Snowy Owl and Peregrine Falcon. Stay for hayrides, music, food carts, a bounce house and lots of fun nature activities. Help celebrate Earth Day, Arbor Day and Bird City Day with Madison Parks, Wild Warner, Friends of Cherokee Marsh, and other Friends of Urban Nature partner groups. In September 2013, Madison was recognized as a "Bird City" by the Bird City Wisconsin project. The program is modeled after the Arbor Day Foundations' "Tree City USA" program with the following goal:
To encourage all communities in Wisconsin to implement sound bird conservation practices by offering public recognition to those that succeed in (a) enhancing the environment for birds and (b) educate the public about the interactions between birds and people and about the contributions birds make to a healthy community.
