A group of organizers is planning a series of community gatherings throughout the summer to encourage unity and dissuade violence.

The Stop the Violence Movement—Madison intends to put on events on six consecutive Saturdays in various city parks — offering free barbecue and food, a bouncy house for youngsters, music and other attractions — as “an active response to some of the uptick in violence,” said Antoine McNeail, one of the six organizers.  Stop the Violence events will take place across the city to bridge divisions and encourage people to visit Madison neighborhoods they might not otherwise travel to.
