An unplanned water outage Tuesday evening in the Spring Harbor area was due to a malfunction related to street re-construction on University Avenue. Customers experienced low pressure or no water from approximately 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. before pressure could be restored by utility employees working on valves at the well in that area.

The high number of phone calls from customers to the Water Utility overwhelmed the 24-hour line. The city's Information Technology department is working to identify and resolve the problem with the phone system.

After service was restored Tuesday evening, utility workers flushed the water mains in the Spring Harbor area to clear out any air in the lines. If customers observe cloudy water at their taps, they should let the cold water run for several minutes until it is clear.
