Literacy Partnership

Simpson Street Free Press (SSFP) coordinates a youth book club network and several other programs structured around literacy. Literacy Partnership engages students in fun and challenging academics outside of school hours. As always, our system fosters meaningful collaboration. We work with schools, libraries, and various after-school sites. UW-Madison students and faculty volunteer their time. SSFP book clubs comes with a menu of related programs that build vocabulary, spelling, and reading prowess. Young learners write and read extensively, and learn to apply their skills in the classroom. Our students publish dozens of book reviews and book trailer videos aimed at their peers. These products are available at libraries and online.
 
Simpson Street Free Press (SSFP) programs are extended learning models. We use a content specific curriculum designed to supplement classroom instruction. SSFP is a project-based approach, designed to support the classroom but not replicate the school day. Preventing summer reading loss is embedded in all Literacy Partnership programs. SSFP book clubs and writing workshops expand every summer. We work closely with local libraries, schools, and other after-school sites. All SSFP programs are free of charge. Parents meet with staff at program enrollment and sign engagement letters.
