The City of Madison’s Wilson Street Garage, located at 20 East Wilson Street, is temporarily closed due to a malfunction with a single sprinkler located on the lower level of the garage. This malfunction occurred early morning on Saturday, February 20, and resulted in water accumulation onto the parking deck of the lowest level, and a flow that spread into two of the elevator vestibules and shafts, as well as, adjacent stairwells. Due to the cold temperatures, the standing water is freezing requiring preventative safety measures for public use, resulting in a temporary closure while cleanup and damage assessments are made.

The duration of this closure is difficult to estimate, due to the steps necessary to safely re-open the garage; the closure could last through early next week. Staff is working diligently to clear water, slush and ice, while elevator technicians are on hand to assist in the removal of excess water and inspect the elevators before they can be placed back in service.
The Parking Division is asking downtown residents, businesses and visitors to use alternate garages for the duration of this closure. You can locate the garages and rates nearest to your destination by visiting the departments Garages and Lots webpage.

We appreciate your patience while this issue is corrected.
