This past week, two multi-vehicle crashes took place during morning rush hours on the West Beltline Highway.

This is a very congested, highly traveled route, and the MPD's Traffic Enforcement Safety Team is urging drivers to please drive safely and obey all traffic laws. They include not driving while distracted: texting, reading, shaving etc.

In response to West Beltline safety concerns, T.E.S.T. will be conducting periodic summer enforcement projects on the busy thoroughfare starting this coming Monday morning.

Fines for speeding tickets start at $88.80 and can go as high as $429.00. They double in construction zones.

This year, T.E.S.T. members, along with other MPD officers, have issued over 4,100 citations including more than 2,500 written for speeding violations.

State law now allows law enforcement to stop a vehicle when the driver is not observed wearing a safety belt. The Madison Police Department also reminds motorists that state law requires that vehicles yield right-of-way to pedestrians in crosswalks. Remember - don't drink and drive!
