Starting Friday, March 15, Metro Transit will expand its low income bus pass program by offering an additional 150 31-day passes per month at its low income pass rate ($27.50).

These additional 150 passes will be made available for purchase on the 15th of each month at Metro's existing low income pass outlets:

• Metro Transit (1245 E. Washington Ave.)
• Dane County Job Center (1819 Aberg Ave.)
• City of Madison - Treasurer's Office (210 MLK Jr. Blvd., RM 107)

Madison Alder Larry Palm of District 15 has described the expansion as a way to provide more flexibility to riders taking advantage of this program.

"There is a great community demand for low income passes," he said. "Transportation is important to our working families who are below the poverty line. Expanding this program and offering additional passes for sale on the 15th will help more of these families, especially those individuals that weren't able to purchase a pass at the beginning of the month."

Metro hopes that the pass expansion will provide more Madison residents with transportation options to reach important destinations such as employment sites, medical appointments, and job interviews.

Metro offers 300 passes for sale at the low income rate ($27.50) on the first business day of each month on a first-come first-served basis.

Another 150 are now also available on the 15th (or next business day) of each month.

To purchase the pass, riders need to fill out a self-certification form that they are at or below 150% of the national poverty line.
